Lots of progress from the week of January 20th, 2017. We banished more grime, and even started the motor! It leapt to life instantly, with a low growl, and refused any notion of untoward pitching. In a couple seconds it snapped into “overdrive” and continued with a low hum.
Everyone is now even more eager to continue and finish the work on the perforator chassis and the other motor board inhabitants. Stay tuned.
1/17/17: With some elbow grease and determination we made a lot of progress removing decades of gunk from our new B. A. B. machinery. Looks like fun, doesn’t it? Thanks as always to our volunteers, who are helping us get this machine ready for operation, and for a place on the museum floor.
12/6/16: museum volunteers set out to Maine to pick up the B. A. B. perforator and master rolls. It was a lot of travel, and a lot of box-lugging, but it was all well worth the effort when we finally wheeled in our museum’s newest inhabitants!
Like any museum, we are always looking for volunteers to join our incredible crew. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, we could be a match made in heaven! If you are a high school student age 16 or older, remember that volunteering at the museum can fill your graduation or Honor Society requirement.
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is proud to announce an award of $1000 from Give 4 Greatness for general operating. Give 4 Greatness is a cooperative program of Arts Services Initiative and Give For Greatness to provide support for smaller cultural organizations in the Buffalo-Niagara region. Funds are raised by the Give For Greatness board, consisting mainly of attorneys in Buffalo, then distributed in the fall of each year. The museum will use these funds to support its special events., especially the performances.
