Our series of Fall carving classes begins on February 2nd and continues for the next 3 Saturdays – February 9th, 16th and 23rd.
Our Beginners class is for those with little or no carving experience. This class introduces tool safety and sharpening, material selection and finishing. Participants will work on a different project each week, including carving in the round and relief carving. Fee includes instruction, a tool kit and materials for projects; students bring a pencil to class.
The Intermediate/Advanced class is for experienced carvers; admission to this class is with instructor approval only. During this series of classes, students will be exploring carving the human face. Participants must bring their own tools, a ruler, pencil, 2 6″ bench clamps. and a non-slip pad. Fee includes instruction, pattern and materials. If they prefer, students may bring their own pattern, wood and tools and receive guidance from the instructor.
All classes are taught by Doug Bathke, a museum trustee who has been carving for 55 years and teaching carving for 46. Classes are a series and cannot be taken individually. Fees are non-refundable after the first class. Maximum enrollment is 12 students for Beginners, 10 for Intermediate/Advanced. All classes are for ages 18 and up.
